Ambassador Luca Sabbatucci, Permanent Representative of Italy to the International Organizations in Paris, today awarded with the honor of Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, Fatih Birol, during a ceremony held at the Hotel de Galliffet.
The prestigious award, conferred by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, is the result of the work of Director Birol at the helm of the most authoritative global body in the field of energy, which has become a point of reference for the main world economies on the entire range of energy technologies, including electricity networks, renewable energy and critical minerals.
The honor is also motivated by the collaboration with Italy, which has its roots in time, but which has seen a clear leap in quality on the occasion of the Italian Presidency of the G7. In his speech during the ceremony, Ambassador Sabbatucci underlined precisely “the extraordinary contribution that the IEA has offered to the Italian Presidency of the G7. Fatih Birol has dedicated deep and sincere attention to the objectives pursued by Italy, with particular reference to the partnership with African countries, also in the context of the Mattei Plan. The G7 Energy for Growth in Africa initiative” – concluded the Ambassador – “is one of the many results that we have achieved together.”
