The Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Maria Tripodi, participated in the Council Meeting at ministerial level of the Organization for Development and Economic Cooperation which was held on 2 and 3 May at the organization headquarters in Paris.
The meeting, chaired by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, was an opportunity to address some of the issues at the center of the global agenda. The participation of Undersecretary Tripodi in the meeting made it possible to enhance the contents and objectives of the Italian Presidency of the G7 considering also the overlap of numerous dossiers between the two areas of dialogue.
Maria Tripodi placed at the center of her interventions the main challenges faced today not only by the members of the OECD, but by each actor on the international scene. Climate change, contrasting demographic dynamics between emerging and developed countries, critical issues of international trade and artificial intelligence are the main axes on which the Undersecretary exposed the Italian position, laying the foundations for the future work of the Parisian Organization on these issues.
Undersecretary Tripodi also addressed the issue – strategic for the OECD – of the enlargement, reaffirming Italy’s full support for a substantial renewal, which is aimed at welcoming into membership key players at a global level who have recently advanced the request of membership, like Indonesia and Thailand, or relaunched the path started in the past, as in the case of Argentina.
