Today Italy has taken over the presidency of the External Relations Committee (ERC) of the OECD, which in 2024 will therefore be led by the Permanent Representative to the International Organizations in Paris, Ambassador Luca Sabbatucci, elected by the Ambassadors accredited to the OECD.

The global relations area constitutes the nucleus with the greatest political content within the framework of the Organization since it defines its role in its international action. Many issues will be addressed during the Italian Presidency, among which the OECD’s activities stand out in strategic areas for current affairs, such as the Country Program on Ukraine – to which Italy has committed itself with a contribution of 500,000 euro -, and collaborative interventions in North Africa, the Near East and the Indo-Pacific area. “We are experiencing a turning point in the history of the OECD. Born as a body of an exquisitely technical nature, with the noble aim of guiding the reconstruction of Europe tormented by the Second World War, the OECD has ensured a decisive contribution to the economic development of the Continent.” stated Ambassador Sabbatucci “Today, however, the Organization has decided to face challenges of a global nature, focusing on concepts that go well beyond the boundaries of economics, such as democracy, the rule of law and the defense of rights human: all issues that have always seen Italy at the forefront. Our Presidency of the ERC, moreover, takes place during the Italian Presidency of the G7. I believe it is a very important fact for understanding the role of our country in the current delicate global situation.”
