The Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Paris, Luca Sabbatucci, has conferred the rank of Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic on Mathias Cormann, Secretary General of the OECD. The ceremony was held today at the Château de la Muette, headquarters of the Parisian organization. The honour, among the highest under Italian law, is granted by the President of the Republic. In the motivations we read how the Secretary General demonstrated specific attention to Italy, to the positions and initiatives taken by our country. In particular, he is recognized for his commitment during the Italian Presidency of the G20, during which he played a decisive role in achieving important objectives, such as the agreement on digital taxation. In the OECD context, Cormann also ensured a significant contribution during the Italian Presidency of the Council meeting at Ministerial level in 2022. Defined as “a solid reference and a reliable partner in an increasingly complex international scenario” by Ambassador Sabbatucci, the Secretary General has exerted his influence in areas of particular interest to Italy, such as ecological transition, sustainable recovery and social inclusion. For his part, Cormann expressed his profound gratitude to Italy and to the President of the Republic for the important recognition.
