Ambassador Luca Sabbatucci participated today in the annual Business at OECD Liaison Committee Meeting, opened by Secretary General Cormann, which dealt with the topic “Security, Sustainability, Successful Business: Private Sector Advice to Strengthen the Real Economy in 2023” .
In his intervention on energy security, Amb. Sabbatucci explained how, as a consequence of Russian aggression to Ukraine, Italy moved quickly to cut gas imports from Russia and diversify sources, building stronger partnerships with African Countries.
Thanks to its geographical position, its connections with neighboring Countries and the valuable contributions of its companies, Italy has the potential to become a hub for energy produced by Africa, both from traditional and renewable sources. For the first time this winter, the energy flow went from the South northwards, inverting the traditional North-South stream. “This is an example of what my Country can do, thanks to important investments, for the benefit of Europe and Africa, bringing development, economic growth and stability”, the Ambassador concluded.
