The fight against energy poverty, The SDGs in the global dialogue: Italian contribution and future perspectives

In continuation of the series of virtual events dedicated to the theme of energy, a webinar was held today entitled The fight against energy poverty, The SDG in the global dialogue: Italian contribution and future perspectives organized by the Permanent Representation to International Organizations in Paris.

Organized in the framework of the Festival of Sustainable Development, the virtual seminar was attended by IRENA Director General Francesco la Camera, Amb Mary Warlick, Deputy Executive Director of the International Energy Agency and ENEA President Gilberto Dialuce. The Director General for Development Cooperation OECD Moreira Da Silva, Giulio Dal Magro, representing Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, Roberto Vigotti Secretary General of Res4Africa and Leone Tarabusi for the Italian Development Cooperation Agency also spoke.

The issue of energy poverty is increasingly at the center of the global debate on energy, so much so that even the G20 under the Italian presidency has adopted a report on the eradication of energy poverty as part of its program documents, which was repeatedly referred to, including in the opening speeches by Ambassador Bernardini, Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Paris, and Director General of Development Cooperation Marrapodi.

Both recalled how access to energy is a central issue, not least because of the indissoluble link between it and the energy transition under way and the global decarbonisation objectives shared by many countries, which will be at the heart of the climate negotiations at the next COP 26 in Glasgow.

Divided into three sessions: the first dedicated to international energy cooperation in the fight against energy poverty, the second to Italy’s contribution to SDG 7 of the 2030 Agenda and the last to financial innovation and new technologies for universal access, the Webinar, moderated by Luca Franza of the Istituto Affari Internazionali, can be viewed at the following link.
