The Permanent Representative to the International Organisations in Paris, Ambassador Antonio Bernardini assumes the co-presidency of the OECD Regional Programme for Middle East and North Africa (MENA) for the Governance Pillar.
Taking over his duties in a priority geographical area for the Italian foreign policy, Ambassador Bernardini will work together with his Tunisian colleague covering the regional country aspects.
The Governance programme is a strategic partnership between MENA countries and the OECD to share knowledge and expertise, with a view to disseminating standards and principles of good governance that support ongoing reforms in the MENA region.
Algeria, Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestinian Authority, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen are among the countries involved in the programme.
The Governance programme is one of the two pillars, the other being the competitiveness programme, of the MENA-OECD regional programme.
The programme avails itself of the OECD Centre of Caserta, established in 2012 by the Italian National School of Administration and the OECD, directed by Professor Mensi.
The centre promotes initiatives for capacity building to foster public sector reforms in the region.
