Italy welcomes South Africa to the IEA

On the occasion of the 261st Meeting of the Governing Board of the International Energy Agency, the Director General for Global Issues of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Massimo Gaiani, and the Permanent Representative, Alessandro Busacca, hosted an event to mark the occasion of South Africa joining the IEA as an Association Country, attended by the top officials of the Agency and the representatives of South Africa and the Member and Association Countries. South Africa is the first sub-Saharan African country to institutionalize its engagement with the IEA. The IEA family of 30 Member countries and 8 Association countries now accounts for almost 75% of global energy consumption, up from about 40% in 2015. Italy supports the IEA prioritizing its work in Africa for accessible, secure and sustainable energy.
