Italian Business Integrity Day: the Foreign Ministry, Italian companies and civil society present abroad Italian business integrity and transparency. Main actors: Acciai Speciali Terni, Luxottica Group and TIM.

To mark the International Anti-Corruption Day (December 9), next 12 December the first edition of the Italian Business Integrity Day (IBID) will take place, from 11.30 to 1pm, in Paris at the OECD Conference Center. This is an innovative project launched by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with Transparency International Italia and some of the largest Italian industrial groups: Acciai Speciali Terni, Luxottica Group and TIM. These companies are members of the Business Integrity Forum, promoted by TI-Italia.

The companies will introduce the compliance models and the tools adopted to prevent illicit behavior and corruption in their business activities. Thus they intend to stress their commitment to integrity, transparency and the prevention of corruption, nurtured through a process of mutual collaboration with the civil society.

In Paris (IBID takes place in two other Italian diplomatic missions) such event enjoys a significant slot, since it is formally placed within the fourth annual session of the Working Group on Bribery. It also coincides with the twentieth anniversary of the OECD Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions; a distinct celebration is dedicated to the latter on the same day, with the participation of the OECD leaders and representatives of member States. This arrangement offers a unique background to Acciai Speciali Terni, Luxottica Group and TIM which may address their presentations to a particularly qualified audience.

The Vice President of Transparency International Italia, Michelangelo Anderlini, responsible for the private sector, will also attend. He will present the Business Integrity Forum, to which the companies have actively contributed, that has led to the development of a practical handbook for SMEs (the anti-corruption toolkit), aiming at fostering integrity practices in the most vulnerable business segments.

The Italian Business Integrity Day has been conceived by the Foreign Ministry within its legal diplomacy and anti-corruption workstream. The Ministry, and its network abroad, affirms its support to the country’s outreach, by a synergic commitment public-private-civil society, aiming at protecting the image of Italy and at reducing the gap between the perception from outside and the effective situation of our economic and legal system.

The French Anti-Corruption Agency and Thales Group will also take part to the event, showing the efforts of the French public and private sector on these issues.
