The annual Ministerial meeting of the OECD Council (MCM), which is entitled “Making Globalization Work: Better Lives for All”, will take place on June 7 and 8. Danemark will chair the meeting, with the UK and Australia as co-chairs.
Benefits and downsides of globalization and trade will be discussed, as well as national policies to be adopted on a national and international level in order to better share the advantages of global economic integration.
The meeting will be preceded by the OECD meeting “Bridging divides” (6-7 June), where the topics of the Ministerial will be open for discussion to representatives of academia, media, politicians, entrepreneurship and civil society. The Italian Under-Secretary to the Presidency of the Council, Sandro Gozi, and Extraordinary Commissary for Digital, Diego Piacentini will attend the meeting. On June 7, after the opening remarks by the Prime Minister of Denmark, Lars Lokke, OECD Secretary General Angel Gurria and Chief Economist Catherine Mann will present the Economic Outlook. The presentation will be followed by the High-Level meeting with the Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anders Samuelson, on “Stocktaking on globalization: opportunities and challenges of economic integration“.
The morning sessions will be open to the public that takes part in the Forum, while the Ministerial works will start in the afternoon with a discussion chaired by the Danish Minister of Education Soren Pind about the role played by national policies in fostering a more equitable distribution of the benefits of globalization and technological progress, namely digitalization.
In the afternoon, the Italian Minister of Economy Pier Carlo Padoan will assist to the signing ceremony of the “Multilateral Convention to Implement Tax Treaty Related Measures to prevent Base Erosion and Profit Shifting“, as well as to the session on competition, capital and wealth distribution dynamics (Item 6).
Italian Under Secretary Benedetto Della Vedova will take part in the Ministerial sessions on the topic of broadening OECD’s membership and on the role of trade and investments for inclusive economic growth. Other high-level guests will be present, such as WTO Director Roberto Azevedo, EU Commissary Cecilia Malmström and US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer.
