Italian Health Minister Beatrice Lorenzin participated in the OECD Meeting of the Health Committee at Ministerial Level on The Next Generation of Health Reforms, which was held on 17th January 2017 at the OECD Conference Centre in Paris. Ministers and Senior Officials from over 35 countries debated on how to make health systems more efficient in terms of quality of services and costs, with a focus on growing costs for specialized treatments. A Statement was adopted highlighting how, despite many health system achievements over the past decade, important challenges call for a new vision focused on reorienting health systems to be people-centred. At the Meeting, Minister Lorenzin presented the results of the recent Italian health system reforms, with a focus on the “Livelli Essenziali di Assistenza/LEA (basic health care services), which have been deeply reviewed and expanded.
