Mission and Objectives

The Permanent Delegation of Italy to the International Organizations is in charge of representing Italy to:

  • The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development
  • UNESCO
  • The semi-autonomous Organizations under OECD’s umbrella: the International Energy Agency (IEA), the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA), the International Transport Forum (ITF), the Financial Action Task Force on Money (FATF)
  • Some autonomous (independent from the OECD) international Institutions based in Paris, as the European Space Agency (ESA), EUTELSAT, the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV), the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM), the International Organisation of Legal Metrology (OIML), International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) and the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM).

Through the Italian Permanent Delegation and in close cooperation with relevant national Authorities, Italy is namely represented in OECD’s Council - its most important decision-making organ, where all the representatives of Member States meet - as well as in its Committees and Working Groups. The Italian Delegation is also in charge of raising awareness about OECD’s excellent technical and scientific work among Italy’s national Authorities and general public.

The staff of the Italian Permanent Delegation is composed of personnel from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, officials from other relevant public Administrations and public servants on a local contract.
