Curriculum Vitae

• Mr. Bernardini is the Permanent Representative of Italy to the International Organizations in Paris from 7 January 2020.
• He has been Ambassador to Brazil and Suriname from 1st July 2016.
• Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 19 September 2013.
• Previously he served as Ambassador, Deputy Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations from 24 August 2010.
• He served as Diplomatic Adviser to the Minister of Environment (2006-2010).
• He was promoted to the rank of Minister Plenipotentiary on 2 January 2006.
• From 2005 to 2006, he worked for the General Directorate for Development Cooperation as Coordinator for Multilateral Activities.
• From 2001 to 2005, he served at the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations as First Counsellor in charge of the    development desk, including the follow-up to the Millennium Summit.
• From 1997 to 2001, he was posted to the Italian Embassy in Tokyo as Head of the Trade Section and coordinator of the operation of the “Italy in Japan 2001” Festival.
• From 1994 to 1997, he served in Rome at the General Directorate for Economic Affairs in charge of EU external relations.
• From 1990 to 1994, he was posted as First Secretary to the Permanent Mission of Italy to International Organizations in Geneva.
• From 1987 to 1990, he was posted to the Italian Embassy in New Delhi as Second Secretary.
• From 1984 to 1987, he was assigned to the General Directorate on Immigration at the Foreign Ministry in Rome, where he ultimately served as Chief of Staff.
• He entered the Diplomatic Service on 1 March 1984, after receiving his degree in Political Science on 2 April 1981.
• He was born in Barletta, in the province of Bari (Italy) on 14 May 1957.
