National Antimafia and Antiterrorism Prosecutor Federico Cafiero de Raho in OECD

National Antimafia and Antiterrorism Prosecutor (Procuratore Nazionale Antimafia e Antiterrorismo) Federico Cafiero de Raho, took part, as key note speaker, at the side event “Partnering against corruption in Sports”, co-organised by the Argentina G20 Presidency, the OECD and the UNODC, back-to-back with the 3rd ACWG Meeting on 10 October 2018.

The event consisted of an highly participated session with researchers, academia, high and senior level officers from members State and International Organizations, which are dealing with the fights against corruption.

The National Prosecutor, participated at the opening session “Detection and Sanctioning Corruption in Sport” with a speech aiming to illustrate the infiltration of organized crime in sport.

Using relevant case studies, the Magistrate highlighted the most dangerous and pervasive means used by criminal organizations in the field, including match fixing, ownership of football team, mostly non-professionals ones, with the aim to gain power and a social consensus, money laundering, but even drug smuggling and doping, this last resulting, at times, even more profitable than the first one.

During the day Cafiero de Raho, also met Nicola Bonucci OECD Director for Legal Affairs to discuss possible synergies and addressed the delegates of the OECD Working Group on Bribery.
